The Neighbourhood released this music video for Devil's Advocate in August 2020. I really like the video as it is very abstract and experimental. The opening shots show the character's shoes, and then silhouette and then the camera gradually pans up his body before revealing his face.
These opening shots create a sense of mystery and intrigue before revealing the character. Jesse Rutherford plays the character 'Chip Chrome' which the album 'Chip Chrome and the Mono-tones' is named after. His costume is very unique and 'out-there', and he wears silver face paint and silver hair spray. We are given no context of the character which creates a weird and intriguing element to the music video.
Throughout the video, a green screen is used and the character walks in time with the music over different backgrounds as if he is taking us on a journey. As the video progresses the character also starts running rather than walking, as the music reaches the chorus. I also liked some of the shots which look like a projector has been used and you can see the characters shadow. Shots are also overlaid with one another creating a very artistic effect which I like and is something I would like to experiment with in my own music video.
