Camera

ISO
- measures sensitivity of the image sensor
- lower the number - less sensitive camera is to light
- higher ISO creates more grain/noise

Shutter Speed
- length of time recording medium is exposed to light
- faster shutter speed require more light
- slower shutter speed = more blurred

Aperture
- opening through which light travels
- f stop usually f. 2.8 or f. 22
- focal length (longer the lens the shallower the depth of field)

In these still image examples I showed the difference in the lighting of the image using different ISO settings when shooting in natural light.

in these images I tried using different shutter speeds to see the effect on the image. in the first image we can see the motion blur whereas in the second image you can see it is more clear.

In these images I used different apertures to alter the depth of field.

Shutter Speed Task

In these videos I filmed my dog running towards me using various shutter speeds to try and capture him with and without motion blur.

Using the 1/30 shutter speed we can see there is a lot of motion blur and the screen grab is very unclear

Here I used a shutter speed of 1/50 and there is still some motion blur however it is much clearer than the 1/30 video

In this video I used a 1/250 shutter speed which resulted in very little motion blur as shown in the screen grab.

To improve these videos, I felt that I could try recording them using a tripod so that the camera movement was not affecting the video, as I felt this was potentially adding more blur to the videos.
Here I tried using a tripod as I felt that if the only variable was the shutter speed, it would be easier to compare the videos as there was no camera movements. However, I actually felt that these videos were less successful, either because the subject was moving faster or because it was too close too the camera and therefore not in shot long enough, so I felt that there is not as much of a clear difference in the screenshots as there was in the first videos I took.

Aperture Task

In these videos I filmed my dog using different apertures of f5, f8, and f22. I could only go down to f5 as I was using my normal camera lens, so to improve this I could have used the specialist lens to go down to a lower f stop such as f2.8
Aside from this I actually felt that these videos worked really well and you can see a clear difference in the depth of field between the videos.

ISO Task

In these videos I used ISO of 100 and 1600. We can see that in the first video the lighting is brighter as it is outdoors, the image is well lit and sharp the colours are also pretty vibrant. In the second video as it is indoors therefore the lighting is worse. The higher ISO makes the video very grainy and the colours look more dull.
