4 Hour Film Challenge 2 - Found Footage Music Video

For this task we were required to make a music video with footage we already had or footage we found online. The video needed to be at least a minute long and we were asked to use Premiere Pro in order to edit the video.

For my music video I chose to use the song 'Arabella' by Arctic Monkeys and I found footage online from the TV series 'Peaky Blinders' to edit as I really like the show and felt that it fitted well with the vibe of the song.

In order to get the footage I screen recorded clips from YouTube videos. Then, when editing my video I cut each scene so that they were all individual clips. I then started playing around with arranging them in to the order I wanted.

I used the scene shown in the still above as the first clip, as I felt it was a good establishing shot and was also quite a long clip that was in slow motion which fitted well with the tempo at the beginning of the song. I tried to cut my clips in time with the music and used both long and short clips to avoid it being repetitive and give variety. I also tried to match certain clips with the lyrics of the song for example I used the scene below when the lyrics are "catching the light".

Personal reflection:

Overall I am quite pleased with the final video, especially considering it was my first attempt at editing a video like this using Premiere Pro. Upon reflection, I felt that the order of the clips was a bit random, especially towards the end as I was running out of time. Furthermore, to improve I could have tried being more experimental with my editing techniques. For example, I could have added other effects such as overlaying clips by altering the opacity or using different transitions, however I wasn't that confident on how to do many different techniques. In addition I only had a limited time frame to complete the video so didn't want to make it more complicated and then not finish the video.

Peer Feedback:

  • Really like the way you played around with time with slow motion etc
  • Liked the way the shots matched the beat of the music
  • Ending was a bit abrupt
