4 Hour Film Challenge 1 - The Door

When planning 'The Door' 4 hour film challenge as a group, we struggled to come up with a solid idea to film and ended up deciding to film our own videos separately. Personally, I found this much more challenging as I had to do every role myself. This also included me having to be the actor, so it was hard for me to act and film at the same time, therefore a lot of the shots were filmed using a tripod, which meant I couldn't be as creative with using different filming techniques such as handheld camera. When planning my film, I decided I wanted to create a horror style film and focus on the feeling of someone feeling watched in their own home, using the song 'Somebody's Watching Me' by Rockwell. I decided to film it in portrait on my phone, inspired by short films I had seen on social media such as TikTok. I decided to use bright coloured lights to create more aesthetic lighting.

Overall, I was mostly pleased with my final film, especially considering it was my first time editing using Premiere Pro, however there was still several elements that I struggled with. Part of the brief was that we had to use continuity editing in the film which I feel I did successfully to tell a story and show events in chronological order. The film was supposed to be between 1 and 3 minutes, however mine was only 54 seconds which is a bit short. This was mostly because when filming the ending scene, I didn't like how it looked and I felt that my acting wasn't realistic enough so it didn't look effective. I tried re filming the scene lots of times however I just wasn't happy with it so I didn't include that scene which lead to the ending being quite abrupt.
Another problem I encountered was that one of the music tracks I used from Premiere Pro was an unlicensed stock audio which meant that I couldn't export the video, which I didn't realise until I had finished editng it. This meant that I had to screen record my final film and use the screen recorded audio which was a bit more distorted.
